Named for its time of flowering at Christmas, this dwarf evergreen shrub forms large mats (may be over 1 m wide) of flowers. This is a low growing shrub, plants may be male or female. Stems are woody with rosettes of leaves around them terminating in creamy white flowers. Light fluffy parachute seed heads blow from the female plant. Found on dwarf shrub heath and coastal heathland amongst diddle-dee. Abundant on East and West Falklands and also present on South America in Fuegia and Andean Patagonia.
